Purpose

To provide teachers with opportunities to learn and share best practices that strengthen students’ literary skills and college-readiness through the At Home in College program. AHC will support teachers in developing a deeper understanding of the college-level curriculum through exploring Psychology and Sociology content while making specific reading and writing strategies explicit. AHC supports teachers in identifying challenges faced in the classroom when using the AHC curriculum and effective strategies to address those challenges, connecting professionals to resources to better support college readiness in students, and developing a network of professionals to share teaching expertise.

Components

Workshops

All teachers are expected to participate in monthly professional development workshops for the At Home in College program. PD sessions will include model lessons, using student work as evidence of success with curriculum, setting professional goals, and discussing challenges and successes in the classroom. Participants will be asked to share successful lesson plans and bring sample student work to evaluate with AHC colleagues.

Optional PD’s will be determined throughout the fall and will be open to ALL AHC teachers.

Note: Teachers will be paid per session for every workshop they attend outside of school hours. Stipend checks will be submitted three times per year.

On-Site Opportunities

I will be on-site at each school throughout the year to offer support through visiting classes in action, identifying and supporting areas of growth, and developing plans to build capacity in literacy instruction as well as youth development.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact Lauren Rubin at Lauren.Rubin@cuny.edu or 718-254-7255.
